“Religion and education? How can that be fun?” is a quote you might hear from someone who has never seen a Rel/Ed VP at work. At first glance, this position may seem boring and uninteresting. To a lot of people, the Religion and Education aspects of USY are some of the most cumbersome parts. My job is busting the preconceived notions about one of the most underrated and often overlooked positions on a USY executive board. As a regional Rel/Ed, not only is it my job to coordinate the religious and educational aspects of the Central Region, it is my job to create new ideas and programs that will inspire those USYers who are so turned off to the idea that religion and education can be fun. One of the biggest parts of my job is working with the Chapter-level Rel/Eds in coming up with unique and engaging programming that can be carried out throughout the region.
As far as more specific responsibilities, I am responsible for making sure that religious and educational experience at regional conventions goes as smoothly as possible. This entails assigning service parts for T’fillot (prayers), helping create the shiurim (study sessions) that are a critical part of a convention, as well as being a dugma (role model).
