In June of 1998, three CRUSY Exec Boarders, Reva Wasserman, Ira Horowitz, and Mark Young, went to UNIQUE thrift shop in Northfield Ohio and bought me for two dollars. The next week in Oak Park, Michigan, Arlyne Bochnek sewed "CRUSY" to my sweater. Then on Wednesday June 17, 1998, my first photo was taken.
This was the beginning of a journey that will never be forgotten. Over two hundred and fifty photos later, the first ever CRUSY TIKUN OLAM TEDDY BEAR PHOTO ALBUM was made. It shows photos of me that were taken from all over the world, from Wheels to Pilgrimage, every International Convention since 1998 to family trips across the globe. I attended every CRUSY convention (minus a couple when I was sick) since my adoption by CRUSY. I had quite an amazing adventure this year when I was taken to Eastern Europe and Israel.
Sadly, in 2007, CRUSY lost one of its most beloved advisors, Rachel Hoffer, to cancer. Rachel was Shaarey Tikvah USY's incredible advisor and she did amazing things for the chapter. I spent a lot of time with Rachel while she was sick, and when Rachel passed away, CRUSY decided that I would permanently stay with the Hoffer family in memory of Rachel's unsurpassed dedication to youth. Even though I am not with CRUSY anymore, I continue to bring smiles to everyones faces!
Fortunately, that wasn't the end to the presence of a SA/TO Teddy bear in CRUSY. In 2007, I was genetically cloned so that I could be both with the Hoffer family AND with CRUSY. Although my fur is a bit whiter now, I am back and in charge in CRUSY. You can find me with the SA/TO Vice President at any USY Convention!
I was created to bring a smile to everyone's face, and to be a dugmah for the Social Action Tikun Olam piece of CRUSY. SA/TO is about helping others and loving it, while making as many people happy as possible in the process. I have tried to enhance our SA/TO since I was adopted by CRUSY.
